Legacy Software

Legacy applications can create a challenge for any business. Microsoft Visual Basic and Access for example were widely used at the beginning of the century to create bespoke applications. Time has passed, the applications are still in use, creak a little, some things no longer work. If this sounds like a familiar story, then we are here to help.

Old Oak Systems has over 25 years of experience (I guess we were born at just the right time!) with these legacy systems and would be happy to work with you to either support your existing infrastructure as best we can as it continues to age, or re-implement the system in such a way that it is maintainable (and documented! - we are at heart Software Engineers).

So how does this work then?

As all systems are different, we'll discuss your requirements, but typically if it is support your after, we will look at the existing system and see how we can help.

If it is development or other modifications you require then we will ascertain if the source code is available (are we able to make changes).

We'll come to a clear understanding with you of what your expectations are from us, and what ours are from you - at this point your legacy system will get the care and attention it needs.

So what sort of things can you maintain?

Good question! We have experiencewith Window systems from 3.1 to the present day, including Windows NT and XP. We understand the hardware of the time and how to maintain it. We understand DOS systems, printers (even the dot matrix ones), we also understand when you have a really bit of old hardware that only works with this machine and everyone just hopes it never goes wrong. Essentially, get in touch, and we'll see if we can help.
