Old Media

At the turn of the century cloud storage was a thing of the future, beyond our dreams perhaps. Many formats existed during those times that have now fallen out of favour - everything is connected or gets shipped on a USB drive. When was the last time you used a CD to load software?

Here at Old Oak Systems we are known for hoarding old computers, and so we have the ability to convert from many formats to something readable by modern hardware - we can even put your data on the cloud if that's your thing (although typically we would ship it back to you on a USB stick).

So how does this work then?

Firstly get in touch and tell us what media you have, and what you require from it, we'll discuss your requirements, but typically we would ask you to send us the media if we ascertain we are able to convert it for you. We can also look at converting the data for you, so that thesis you wrote about in 1996 entitled "The Future of Computing" could be editable once again. If the data is sensitive then we can look at visiting you to do the conversion. If we don't have the ability to read your specific media we are not against acquiring new hardware for the collection.

So what sort of things can you convert?

We have a great collection of early 8 bit computers onwards, so most floppy disk formats can be covered. We have Zip, LS120 and Jazz drives, so we should be able to read them too. If the data is on a hard drive we can give that a go. We are also happy to work with CD / DVD media - even damaged ones (we'll do our best).

Okay, so it sounds like you can read my media, what do you charge?

We'll charge a small amount for looking at the media and ascertaining if we can get the data from it. If we can then we'll charge on an hourly basis for the copying and the cost of new media. We can host a backup of the data for you if you require.
